Life Insurance applications for those with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can be placed with a number of insurance providers, who will want to discuss your condition with your GP before they offer you acceptance terms. The insurance provider will be interested in whether your diagnosis is classed as mild, moderate or severe, and may wish to see the results of any tests (e.g. electrocardiograms) that have been performed. Such requests for information come at the insurer's expense and not your own.
Depending upon the severity of your condition you could be looking at anywhere from a mild rating to your policy premiums through to a high end rating. Please also bear in mind that in extreme circumstances or when there are other significant medical disclosures, you application may be declined. Here at Special Risks Bureau we have had a lot of experience dealing with applications for people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and if cover is available we will certainly do our best to source it for you.
Critical Illness Cover when you have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy unfortunately is not available as a personal policy. You could possibly have Critical Illness cover through your employer, if they are willing to arrange an employer funded scheme.
At the present time there are no insurers who are able to offer personal Income Protection for those with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. You could arrange an employer funded scheme known as Group Income Protection through your employer, or your own company. Please get in contact with our specialist advisers if you want to explore this option.

As an alternative you may wish to consider Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover which offers 12 to 24 months of income replacement should you be unable to work due to illness, injury or redundancy. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover is not medically underwritten so your hypertrophic cardiomyopathy will not be considered when you are offered policy acceptance terms. However you must be aware that any claim that you make on the policy excludes pre-existing medical conditions, so you will be unable to place a claim if it is related to your hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
