Quadruple Heart Bypass Life Insurance

Health conditions high risk insurance quadruple heart bypass

We understand that having a quadruple heart bypass is no small task. You have probably had the surgery due to having had a heart attack and/or blockages within the arteries, so not only do you need to recover from surgery, you also need to recover from the physical and emotional scare of finding out that you had coronary heart disease. But we also understand that once you have had surgery you can be back up and on your feet within a few months. It is our job to step up for you and find an insurer that can support you, now that you are recovered from the surgery.

Things we need to know:

  • When did you have open heart surgery?
  • Why did you need a quadruple heart bypass?
  • Do you take any medication?
  • Did you have a stent fitted?
  • Have you experienced any complications i.e. stroke?
  • Are you blood pressure and cholesterol well controlled?
  • Do you have any other conditions, such as diabetes, that we should know about?
  • Are you fully recovered from the surgery?

Depending upon the cause of you having the bypass surgery, the time since it was performed and how your recovery is going, it is possible that you could get Life Insurance on the standard market. In general, any Life Insurance that you can arrange will be at non-standard terms, where the premium is increased to offset any risk that the insurer believes can be present after open heart surgery. There are specialist Life Insurance options for people that have had quadruple heart bypass surgery, if options on the standard market are not available.

It is important to note that you can arrange non-medically underwritten Life Insurance, if you are due to have a quadruple heart bypass soon, but it will exclude any claim relating to your surgery.

Quadruple Heart Bypass Critical Illness Cover

Critical Illness Cover after a quadruple heart bypass may be available with certain specialist insurers. Any offer of Critical Illness Cover that you get however will exclude claims relating to your heart, and whilst this may not seem ideal, there are still many conditions that you will be insured for.

Quadruple Heart Bypass Income Protection

Long term Income Protection after quadruple bypass surgery is unlikely to be available on an individual life basis. You may be able to become a part of a Group Income Protection scheme, that is funded by your employer, if they are willing to look at this option or you have your own company.

Alternatively, you can look at Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover. This policy type is not medically underwritten, so you will not need to detail having had open heart surgery, when you apply. The insurer will take into account your existing medical history, if you make a claim, and will exclude claims relating to your surgery. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policies provide a monthly income replacement for 12-24 months, if you are unable to work due to ill health, or involuntary redundancy.

What is Quadruple Heart Bypass

Quadruple heart bypass surgery is performed with the arteries leading to your heart become narrowed, and cause significant issues to your health e.g. a heart attack. During this type of open heart surgery you will be unconscious, while the surgeons take grafts from blood vessels within your body, to repair the damage to your heart. Quadruple heart bypass surgery involves placing grafts above and below the narrowing or blockage, on all four coronary blood vessels.

Common Questions

1. I applied for life insurance but I've been declined. They said its because I had heart bypass surgery 3 years ago. What are my options?

Speak to us. Its never easy being refused life insurance, many of our clients have come to us because they have been in the same position as you. There are a number of insurers that can look at your application for Life Insurance. Depending upon the reason that you had the open heart surgery and how your health is now, we may be able to look at carefully selected insurers on the standard market. But, if the standard market ends up being a no go, there are specialist insurers that we can speak to for you.

2. I had quadruple heart bypass surgery, and I want to put some insurance in place for wife. Just so she has something when I'm gone, to cover the funeral. Can you help?

Yes. There are a few options we can look at, and once we know a bit more about your circumstances, we can recommend the right one for you.

3. My bank just refused my life insurance application, they've accepted my wife straight away, but said no to me. As soon as I said I had had a heart attack and heart bypass surgery, they declined me and haven't given me any options. I've found you guys, can you do anything?

Yes we can. It is quite common for people with pre-existing medical conditions to be declined life insurance with their bank. Once we know a bit more about you, we can recommend which insurer is going to be the best one for you. We are not tied to a single insurance provider like many banks are, so we can research the whole of the market to get life insurance that suits you.
