Life Insurance

Life Insurance for travel to Afghanistan is strongly linked to whether the applicant is a civilian or Armed Forces personnel. If you are a civilian working on an Army base there are some insurance providers who have offered standard terms for Life Insurance in the past and may continue to do so now and in the future. If you are a civilian travelling to Afghanistan and will not be staying within an Army base then you may either have your policy premiums rated considerably or have your application declined.

Members of the Armed Forces who are based in Afghanistan are likely to have their policy premiums loaded due to the added risk that their occupation comes with. Depending upon your job requirements within the Armed Forces your cover may have exclusions placed on it for claims relating to your regular working tasks e.g. bomb disposal, or be declined altogether. There are specialist insurance providers who are willing to consider these applications on a case by case basis, please speak with one of our experienced insurance advisers who can place your application with the correct insurer for your circumstances.

When you are visiting Afghanistan for a short period of time such as for a holiday or to visit family your application should be accepted at standard rates.

Critical Illness Cover

Similarly to Life Insurance, a civilian working on an Army base has the potential to secure Critical Illness Cover for Afghanistan at standard rates (this cannot be guaranteed as guidelines change regularly). Depending upon the severity of unrest in Afghanistan when you apply for your cover, you may find that some conditions listed in the insurers policy documents are excluded from your policy, due to your close proximity to the area of conflict.

Armed Forces Personnel who are based in Afghanistan are likely to have either an occupation or Critical Illness exclusion placed upon their policy. An occupational exclusion will mean that should you suffer a Critical Illness due to your job you will be unable to make a claim on the policy. Critical Illness exclusions may include those conditions listed in the policy documents that are seen to be more likely to occur due to your occupation and location of work e.g. loss of limbs, coma, traumatic head injury, etc.

Income Protection

This is a difficult policy to source for civilians based within Afghanistan. You will need to place your application with a specialist insurance provider who will consider the cover, most will not. Factors such as the length of time that you spend in Afghanistan, your methods of travel when there, where you stay and your day to day working tasks will all have an impact on whether your application is accepted. You should not have unrealistic expectations in this regard, you are unlikely to find an insurance provider who will accept your policy without a reasonable increase to your policy premiums.

If you are a member of the Armed Forces working within Afghanistan you will likely be unable to get Income Protection Insurance.

I have unusual circumstances. While some other agents may have come up with the solution it was the efficiency of Cura's operation that impressed me. - 5 Stars

Summary definition

Due to the constant shift of civil unrest and active combat within Afghanistan, insurance providers are often cautious about providing insurance to those individuals travelling or working within the location. Insurance providers are highly reactive to developments within the country and their underwriting guidelines change on a regular basis.
